GUNMEN ATTACK SENATOR NATASHA AKPOTI-UDUAGHAN’S FAMILY HOME IN KOGI

Gunmen launched a violent attack on the family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan in Obeiba-Ihima, Kogi State, in the early hours of Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The assailants, reportedly armed with firearms and machetes, vandalised the property, shattering windows and causing significant damage.

The attack, which occurred around 1:00 a.m., prompted a swift response from the local police division after the senator’s Chief Security Officer raised an alarm. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

In a statement, Senator Natasha revealed that the attackers may have believed she was present in the house at the time. According to her, her younger brother had been at the residence with contractors for an inspection related to upcoming constituency projects. She condemned the incident and called for a full investigation to identify and prosecute the perpetrators.

This violent intrusion comes amid rising insecurity in Kogi State. Earlier this year, at least 19 people were killed in Omala Local Government Area, prompting widespread concern. Senator Natasha, who has been outspoken about the security situation in the state, has continuously urged federal authorities to step in and restore peace.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, though speculations of political intimidation loom. Senator Natasha has previously alleged threats to her life and accused political actors of orchestrating violence during the 2023 elections, including an attempt on her life during a campaign event.

She has now renewed calls for increased security in Kogi, urging both state and federal governments to collaborate in safeguarding lives and property. The senator emphasized the urgent need to address the root causes of violence and restore public confidence in security institutions.

This attack adds to the growing concern over political violence and security instability in Kogi, as Nigerians demand decisive action to protect citizens, especially in volatile regions.
