Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of repeating political mistakes that contributed to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) defeat in the 2023 general elections.
Atiku, a PDP founding member, has recently called for a coalition of opposition parties to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections, stating the coalition would adopt a platform focused on good governance.
But in a media chat on Friday, Wike dismissed Atiku’s moves as self-serving, saying it’s another bid to become the coalition’s presidential flag bearer.
Everybody wants to be president, but nobody wants to build the party. If you don’t get your way, it’s back to ‘to your tents, O Israel, Wike said.
He warned that Atiku is repeating the same errors that sparked internal PDP crises before the 2023 elections. “You can’t cause a crisis and later say you were rigged out. You rigged yourself,” he added.
Wike’s remarks align with PDP governors who recently rejected coalition talks, insisting the party remains open only to those who wish to join and strengthen it.
