What started as a youth-led protest has now shaken the very foundation of Nepal’s leadership… and no one saw this coming.
Now, the country’s former Prime Minister and four top officials are officially grounded, banned from leaving the country.
From Protest to Chaos in Just Days
It all began on September 8. A small protest sparked by a brief social media blackout, rising economic hardship, and corruption frustrations.
But within 48 hours, everything exploded.
The unrest turned deadly. 73 lives lost.
Government buildings burned to the ground.
And the government? Collapsed.
What really happened? Who’s to blame?

Now, Big Names Are Being Grounded
The new interim government isn’t wasting time.
On Monday, Interior Minister Om Prakash Aryal confirmed that KP Sharma Oli, the ousted prime minister, and four former top officials have been slapped with travel bans.
They can’t even leave the Kathmandu Valley without permission.
Among those banned:
• KP Sharma Oli (Former PM)
• Ramesh Lekhak (Former Home Minister)
• Hutaraj Thapa (Ex-Intelligence Chief)
• Two senior bureaucrats
Why now? And what’s the investigation digging up?
A High-Stakes Probe Begins…
Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki, now leading Nepal until elections in March 2026, has launched a special commission to uncover the truth behind the deadly protests.
That same commission recommended the travel bans just one day before they went into effect.
Commission member Bigyan Raj Sharma warned:
“They may need to appear for investigation at any time.”
Are arrests coming next? Could charges be filed?
$600 Million in Damages — And Counting
According to Nepal’s biggest business body, FNCCI, the protests didn’t just cost lives…
They crushed the economy.
Hotels, car dealers, shops, all hit hard.
Estimated damage? A staggering $600 million.
Can the country recover?
Oli Speaks Out… But Blames “Infiltrators”
KP Oli isn’t staying quiet.
He claims outsiders hijacked the protests and brought in illegal weapons, including rifles.
But critics say he’s deflecting blame as pressure mounts.
So… is Oli hiding something? Or being used as a scapegoat?
What’s REALLY going on in Nepal?
Is this a bold move for justice, or a political witch hunt?
