The Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has sent a strong message ahead of the 2027 general elections: the days of political silence are over.
Speaking at a grand reception in his honour in Calabar, the newly inaugurated Cross River State President, Chief Chukwuemeka Egwuonwu, made it clear:
Only politicians who truly serve the people and uphold integrity will earn the support of Ohanaeze moving forward.
“Every human is a political being, and Ohanaeze will no longer sit on the sidelines. We will support only those with performance, not manipulation,” Egwuonwu declared.
He commended Governor Bassey Otu for his inclusive governance and support for non-indigenes, describing his leadership as fair, people-centered, and worthy of praise.

Also present was Senator John Mbata, President General of Ohanaeze, who encouraged the new executive to foster unity, cultural pride, and global relevance for Igbos everywhere.
Governor Otu also applauded the Igbo community’s contributions to commerce and growth in Cross River, assuring them of continued collaboration.
Chief Egwuonwu pledged to unify members and increase Ohanaeze’s influence across the state.
It’s time to raise our voices, hold leaders accountable, and support those who truly work for the people. Ohanaeze Ndigbo is stepping forward, and every Nigerian should too.
