CRISIS ROCKS CROSS RIVER APC AS CHAPTER LEADERS DEMAND CHAIRMAN’S RESIGNATION

Cross River APC chapter leaders protesting outside the state party office, demanding the resignation of Chairman Alphonsus Eba.

Tensions flared within the All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State on Wednesday as protesters, including 35-chapter chairmen and secretaries, stormed and blocked access to the party’s state secretariat in Calabar.

The angry demonstrators, carrying placards with messages demanding change, called for the resignation of the State Chairman, Alphonsus Eba.

The protest effectively shut down the party office, preventing movement in and out of the premises.

According to reports, the protest followed a communique issued a day earlier by 18-chapter chairmen and 17 secretaries, led by High Chief Kelvin Njong, who collectively demanded Eba’s immediate removal from office.

The aggrieved members accused the state chairman of withholding three months’ stipends, unequal allocation of party funds, mismanagement of election resources, and fomenting division within the party.

As of the time of filing this report, no member of the APC State Working Committee had addressed the protesters. Eba, however, has denied all allegations, maintaining that stipends are paid directly to ward executives and that some payments were temporarily withheld pending internal investigations.

The development underscores the growing leadership crisis within the Cross River APC, as members push for reforms and accountability ahead of upcoming political activities.
Further updates are expected as the situation unfolds.
