The Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops under Operation FANSAN YANMA to step up search-and-rescue operations for the 25 schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi State.
The attack, carried out by bandits on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, also claimed the life of the school’s vice principal, Hassan Yakubu Makuku.
Maj. Gen. Shaibu arrived in Kebbi on Monday alongside senior officers from the Army Headquarters to assess the situation firsthand.
During an operational meeting with frontline commanders, he urged troops to maintain relentless, round-the-clock efforts until every abducted student is found and returned safely.
He stressed that determination, intelligence-driven operations, and swift professional action are key to achieving success.
The Army Chief also met with local vigilantes and hunters who work closely with security forces.
He highlighted the importance of stronger collaboration, noting that their deep knowledge of the terrain is crucial to identifying criminal hideouts and speeding up rescue efforts.
He assured them of continued military support and commended their courage.
Shaibu later visited the traditional ruler of Danko, Abubakar Allaje, and the principal of the attacked school, Rabi Magaji, to offer condolences and reassurance.
He reaffirmed that rescuing the schoolgirls remains a top national priority and emphasized that all necessary resources are being deployed to ensure their safe return.
