Tight security deployment at Nigeria’s National Assembly ahead of President Tinubu’s 2026 budget presentation

Tinubu 2026 Budget Presentation Security Tightened in Abuja

Security has been significantly tightened around the National Assembly complex in Abuja ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

Armed security personnel drawn from the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), Civil Defence Corps, and other security agencies were stationed at strategic points within and around the National Assembly on Tuesday morning. Access roads leading to the complex were placed under strict surveillance, with vehicles and individuals subjected to thorough security checks.

Tinubu 2026 Budget Presentation Security Restricts Access

Only lawmakers, senior government officials, accredited journalists, and authorised aides were allowed entry into the premises, as security operatives enforced movement restrictions to maintain order and prevent any breach.

President Tinubu is expected to outline the Federal Government’s spending priorities, revenue projections, and economic roadmap for 2026, against the backdrop of ongoing economic reforms, subsidy removal impacts, and efforts to stabilise the economy.

Security Described It as Precautionary

The annual budget presentation is one of the most significant events on Nigeria’s political calendar, often attracting top government officials, diplomats, and stakeholders, hence the heightened security arrangements.

Officials say the measures are precautionary and aimed at ensuring a smooth, safe, and hitch-free budget presentation.
