February 15, 2026 | Etsako West, Edo State, Nigeria — The All Progressives Congress (APC) has continued to strengthen its political hold in Etsako West Local Government Area, following the high-profile defection of Andrew Momodu, Aruna Abubakar, and thousands of their supporters to the ruling party.
The mass defection occurred on Sunday, February 15, 2026, during a high-powered stakeholders’ meeting held at the APC Secretariat in Etsako West.
According to party leaders, the influx of new members has propelled the APC’s followership in the area to over 95.5%, a figure they describe as an unprecedented level of dominance ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Warm Reception for New Members
The defectors were received warmly by top APC stakeholders, including:
- Hon. Ahmed Dauda Kurata, Etsako West APC Chairman
- Alhaji Jim Garuba, Etsako West APC Leader
- Alhaji Shamac
- Chief Saliu Ahmed
- Hon. Busari Yesufu (Experience)
- Former local government chairmen, ward chairmen, women leaders, youth leaders, secretaries, and numerous other party faithful.
Unity, Inclusion and Grassroots Engagement
In his address, Hon. Ahmed Dauda Kurata described the APC as an inclusive political family that welcomes all members — whether longstanding or newly defected — without discrimination. He emphasized that every member would enjoy equal privileges and opportunities within the party.
Hon. Dauda urged the new entrants to deepen their engagement with grassroots communities, highlighting that genuine political strength is built on broad-based participation and collaboration.
Growing APC Influence Across Edo State
Hon. Dauda remarked that the APC’s significant growth in Edo State has weakened opposition forces, noting that early projections of 80% voter support in the next general election may rise to 95% in favour of the APC.
He observed:
“Poverty respects no religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation. We must work together as one family. Our collective interest is the progress of Edo State.”
Voices of the Decampees
Speaking at the event, Hon. Andrew Momodu described the APC as “the promised land” for Nigerian politicians, praising President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo for their leadership and commitment to national and state development. He expressed his support for their bids for a second term in office.
Likewise, Hon. Aruna Abubakar asserted that the APC now enjoys a level of political dominance in Edo State that had never been seen before.
“Today, whether in Zone 1, Zone 2, or Zone 3, APC is the party to beat,” he declared to a cheering crowd.
“I’m back home — we’re back home like we never left.”
Hon. Andrew also used the platform to thank Governor Okpebholo and President Tinubu for restoring confidence in the party through purposeful leadership. He pledged that the new members would work tirelessly to ensure continued success for the APC.
A Resounding Welcome
The event concluded with party leaders extending a warm and enthusiastic welcome to all newcomers, affirming that the APC remains united and ready for the political battles ahead.
“We welcome you all to the ruling party — APC.”
