The All-Progressives Congress (APC) has kicked off a major initiative to amend its constitution to ensure greater inclusivity, representation, and internal democracy.

The process officially began on Monday in Calabar, during the party’s first public hearing on constitutional amendments.

Speaking at the event, APC National Vice Chairman (South South), Victor Giadom, emphasized that the goal is to adapt the party’s structure to reflect the voices of all members, especially women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

“The constitution is not just a document, it’s a living testament to our commitment to justice, equity, and the rule of law,” Giadom stated, citing directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR for a comprehensive and inclusive reform.

The amendment process aims to:

• Expand representation for underrepresented groups
• Accommodate former governors in the National Executive Committee
• Revise key articles (12, 18, 19 & 20) to restructure party organs
• Strengthen internal democracy and party values

Representing Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu, Speaker of the State Assembly Elvert Ayambem welcomed stakeholders. It called on members to make meaningful contributions that will shape the APC’s future for the next 50 years and beyond.

Alphonsus Eba, South South representative in the APC Constitution Amendment Committee, reiterated that the reforms will ensure the party reflects the true diversity of Nigeria and solidify its foundations for years to come.
