Speaking on a recent episode of the CreativTea Podcast, Chimezie acknowledged that the current generation of artists are producing great rhythms and enjoying unprecedented commercial success. However, he urged them to pay closer attention to the messages in their songs.
“Music is more profitable now than in my time. The only problem I have with the present crop of artists is their lyrical content. In terms of rhythm and every other thing, they are doing quite okay.
But what message are they passing to society?” he asked.

The veteran singer, best known for his hit Respect Africa, said he still takes pride in the music he released four decades ago — and challenged young musicians to make songs they can proudly share with their children years from now.
Chimezie, who is often referred to as the “Dancing King of Africa,” encouraged young artists to combine catchy rhythms with meaningful lyrics to create music that will stand the test of time.
