Delta State is in mourning following the tragic death of Chief Love Shimite, the Special Adviser to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Trade and Export. Shimite passed away in the early hours of Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, after what sources described as a brief illness.
According to local reports, the details surrounding her sudden death remain unclear. She was confirmed dead at the hospital where she was rushed to earlier that morning.
The Delta State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, Mr. Bright Edafe, who revealed that Shimite’s husband reported her death and had since been placed in protective custody.
He (the husband) called to report that his wife died early this morning and mentioned receiving threats from her family. We moved him for his own safety, Edafe said.
However, things took a different turn when the deceased’s family filed an official complaint with the police, alleging foul play and suggesting that the husband may have been involved in Shimite’s death.
Mr. Edafe noted that only an autopsy can reveal the true cause of death, adding that an investigation is already underway. He emphasized that the husband has not been arrested but is being protected due to the tension between him and the late adviser’s relatives.
We are currently investigating. In situations like this, an autopsy will determine whether the death was natural or not, Edafe added.
Love Shimite was well-regarded in Delta State for her dedication to trade development and export promotion. Her passing has left many in shock, especially within the state government and the business community.
