DELTA POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN OKADA RIDER’S MURDER, RECOVER CORPSE IN AGBOR

Delta State Police officers arrest suspects linked to okada rider’s murder and cult activities in Agbor and Warri.

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, attached to the Agbor Division, have arrested a key suspect connected to the abduction and killing of a commercial motorcyclist in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement released by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, and made available to journalists in Warri on Thursday.

According to the statement, on October 7, 2025, police received a report of a missing person, one Friday Orumgbe, 53, of Idumu Oza, Agbor, who had left home on October 6 with his Lifan motorcycle but never returned.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbor Division, CSP Michael Obekpa, launched a discreet investigation. After days of intelligence-led operations, police operatives arrested Musa Buhari, 25, of Alihagu Village, Agbor, on October 16, 2025, and recovered the victim’s Tecno T101 handset from him.

During interrogation, Buhari reportedly confessed that he and an accomplice, Manu Usman (currently at large), had posed as passengers to lure the victim into a bush along the Power Line near Oki, Agbor. There, they attacked him with a hoe, rendering him unconscious before stealing his motorcycle and phone.

Acting on Buhari’s confession, police operatives, led by the DPO, visited the crime scene on October 17 and recovered the decomposing body of the victim. The corpse was identified by relatives and deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy.

SP Edafe confirmed that the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue.

Recovered from the suspect were a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, one live cartridge, one expended cartridge, and a battle axe.

According to the PPRO, the arrest followed directives from the Divisional Police Officer, ‘A’ Division, Warri, CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, who ordered intensified patrols in the Ubeji community due to renewed cult clashes.

At about 3:00 a.m. on October 19, 2025, a patrol team noticed a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV (registration number KWL 359 DS, Abuja) parked suspiciously with two occupants, Christian Agbajor Akpos, 33, and Sophia Thomas, 26.

Their inconsistent responses raised suspicion, leading to a search that uncovered the firearm and other weapons. Preliminary investigations revealed that Akpos is a member of both the Maphite Confraternity and the Neo-Black Movement (NBM).

He confessed that the gun was given to him by one “Mr. Shimaye,” identified as the Deputy Chairman of Ubeji community.
Both suspects are currently in custody as efforts continue to track down other members of the gang and recover more weapons.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the officers for their swift action and professionalism. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to eradicating crime through intelligence-led and community-based policing strategies.

The Delta Police Command has recorded several breakthroughs in recent months, including the arrest of 211 suspects, the recovery of ₦8.5 million ransom money, and the interception of 400 rounds of ammunition in Asaba earlier in October.
