“DETTY DECEMBER SHOULD FUND THE FUTURE” — ATPN PRESIDENT TELLS DIASPORA NIGERIANS

ATPN President addresses diaspora Nigerians, urging them to channel Detty December spending toward sustainable tourism and future development in Nigeria.

The President of the Association of Tourism Practitioners of Nigeria, Femi Fadina, is challenging Nigerians in the diaspora to rethink what Detty December really means, saying it’s time to turn the festive fun into financial fuel for the country’s creative economy.

Speaking exclusively ahead of the 2025 celebrations, Fadina told the News Agency of Nigeria that diaspora visits should move beyond parties and concerts and become entry points for cultural and capital investment.

Every concert, every curated experience, every cultural homecoming can and should be a conversion funnel for investment engagement, he said.

Fadina explained that the ATPN wants to reposition Detty December “from fun to fund” with a goal of increasing diaspora participation in Nigeria’s creative economy from 15 percent to 25 percent.

He said the 2024 festive season generated about ₦1.5 trillion in domestic spending across hospitality, nightlife, and logistics yet less than 10 percent of that flowed back into creative infrastructure or destination development.

“The challenge isn’t the volume of spending, it’s the direction of spending,” Fadina stressed.

To change that narrative, ATPN has unveiled a new 2025 festive calendar — featuring Creative Capital Week, the EWA Experience Series, and a Cultural Economy Roundtable all aimed at measuring and multiplying the real economic impact of December’s festivities.

Fadina summed it up in one punchy line:

“Don’t just come home to party — come home to partner.”

This isn’t just about music and merriment it’s about mindset and money flow.
From consumerism to capital formation, from cultural excitement to cultural enterprise the ATPN says Detty December must now fund the future.
