A commercial flight from Asaba, Delta State, to Lagos turned chaotic when popular social media critic Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and comedian Freedom Atsepoyi, aka Mr Jollof, engaged in a physical fight inside the aircraft.

The incident occurred aboard a United Nigeria Airlines flight and was captured in multiple videos now circulating widely on social media.

How the VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof Fight Started

According to eyewitnesses, tension between both men started shortly after boarding and quickly escalated into a heated confrontation in the aircraft aisle. In the viral footage, the duo can be seen trading blows and grappling, while other passengers and cabin crew struggle to separate them mid-air.

Comedian Funny Bone was also seen among those trying to calm the situation and restore order.

The clash is believed to be a continuation of their long-running online feud, which intensified after VDM allegedly made damaging accusations involving Mr Jollof’s wife and internet fraudsters, a dispute that has generated strong reactions on social media in recent weeks.

“I dealt with him”: VDM boasts after the incident

Following the altercation, VDM took to social media to confirm the incident, sharing a video where he displayed what he claimed were bite marks on his body and boasted that he had “dealt with” Mr Jollof during the fight. In the clip, he mocked the comedian for allegedly biting him during the scuffle, using a mix of Pidgin English and street slang.

An aide to the Delta State governor, Ossai Ovie Success, stated that both VDM and Mr Jollof were unboarded and arrested following the disturbance. In a post reacting to the viral video, he expressed disappointment over their conduct, especially inside an aircraft, describing the scene as unnecessary and embarrassing.

He claimed the pair were taken into custody after the fracas for further questioning by the authorities. Details of the specific charges, however, have not yet been made public.

Aviation authorities react VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof Fight

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has also reacted to the mid-air altercation. Its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, reportedly requested more information, including the exact airline and date of the incident, to aid an official investigation into the safety and security breach onboard the flight.

Fights and disruptive behaviour on flights are taken seriously under aviation regulations, as they can endanger other passengers, crew, and the overall safety of the aircraft. Possible sanctions could include fines, prosecution, or being placed on a no-fly list, depending on the findings of the investigation.

United Nigeria Airlines yet to issue full statement

As at the time of this report, United Nigeria Airlines had yet to release a detailed public statement on the incident. However, industry observers say the airline will likely cooperate fully with regulators to establish what happened and the appropriate next steps.
