The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered tight security measures to maintain peace and safety during the holiday.
The directive, announced on Friday through the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, includes increased police visibility, intelligence gathering, and patrol across states. Egbetokun also sent warm Easter greetings to Christians nationwide, encouraging reflection on the season’s values of sacrifice, hope, and renewal.
To ensure safety in all parts of the country, the IGP mandated that Commissioners of Police and Assistant Inspectors-General boost surveillance efforts and strategically position officers at worship centres, recreation spots, highways, and other public places.
The goal is to prevent any security threat and provide quick response where needed, the statement emphasised.
The police boss also called on Nigerians to support security agencies by sharing useful information and remaining alert throughout the celebrations. He further urged road users to drive responsibly and avoid risky behaviours that could endanger lives.
“Let’s celebrate in moderation and be mindful of our actions, especially on the roads, Egbetokun advised.
