The announcement came via an official statement released on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Ikhilor, in Benin City.

According to the statement, the planned Edo Oil and Gas Summit, originally scheduled to kick off on August 7, 2025, has been indefinitely suspended. Governor Okpebholo directed that all funds collected from donors be refunded immediately, and instructed all potential sponsors and stakeholders to cease further dealings with the suspended adviser.

“Due to this breach, the proposed summit is suspended, and Mr. Isere is directed to refund all monies collected. Prospective donors are advised to suspend any transactions or engagements with the adviser,” Ikhilor stated.

This bold step by the state government reinforces its zero-tolerance policy on unethical practices and emphasizes its commitment to due process and integrity in public service.
