Governor Okpebholo Boosts Education and Infrastructure in Edo State Ahead of By-Elections

₦1 Billion Bursary Scheme Announced, College of Education Revived in Igueben, and Grassroots Mobilization Intensifies

As Edo State gears up for crucial by-elections, Governor Monday Okpebholo has reiterated his administration’s commitment to education and infrastructural development, positioning the state for long-term socio-economic growth.

Reviving Education in Edo: ₦1 Billion Bursary Scheme Unveiled

Speaking during the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign tour in Edo Central Senatorial District, Governor Okpebholo emphasized the critical role of education in the state’s development. He announced the revival of the College of Education in Igueben — a major step aimed at enhancing academic opportunities and stimulating growth in the region.

“We will continue to march forward. We are reviving the College of Education, Igueben. We have rolled out a ₦1 billion bursary scheme to cater for Edo indigenes in tertiary institutions,” said the governor.

The bursary initiative is part of a broader educational reform strategy designed to ease financial burdens for students and ensure better access to higher learning.

Campaign Trail: APC Mobilizes Across Edo Central

Governor Okpebholo’s remarks came during a campaign tour across multiple wards — including Ward 4, 7, 8, Uzea Kingdom, and Ebele Kingdom — ahead of the senatorial by-election scheduled for next Saturday. During the tour, the APC received a boost as several defectors from other parties, including notable leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), joined their ranks. Among them was Rt. Hon. Friday Itula, former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly.

Deputy Governor Idahosa Rallies Support in Ovia

Meanwhile, in Ovia South West, the Deputy Governor, Hon. Dennis Idahosa, led a high-energy campaign to drum up support for the APC’s House of Representatives candidate, Omosede Igbinedion. Addressing party members at the flag-off of the Ovia Federal Constituency by-election campaign, Idahosa described the poll as a litmus test for the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Saturday’s by-election is to show our preparedness for the 2027 general elections. I want it to be a 100 percent win for the APC,” he declared.

Omosede Igbinedion: The Only Female National Assembly Candidate from Edo

APC candidate Omosede Igbinedion appealed to voters to continue supporting the party and the deputy governor’s developmental agenda. As the only female candidate for the National Assembly from Edo State, her candidacy brings gender diversity to the forefront of the political conversation.

“Don’t relent in your support. Let’s continue to build on the work of the APC for more development across our communities,” she urged.
