GUNMEN ATTACK KEBBI BOARDING SCHOOL, KILL VICE PRINCIPAL, ABDUCT FEMALE STUDENTS

A damaged school building in Kebbi State with security presence after gunmen attacked, killing the vice principal and abducting female students.

A group of armed men early Monday attacked a government-run boarding school in Kebbi State, killing the vice principal and abducting an undisclosed number of female students, according to security sources and school officials.

The attack occurred before dawn as the assailants invaded the school premises, shooting sporadically and forcing students out of their hostels. A school source, who requested anonymity due to fear of reprisal, confirmed that the vice principal died during the assault.

Security agents and local authorities have not yet released the exact number of students taken, but sources say the abductees were all female students. The operation is believed to have been carried out by a criminal gang active in the region.

The Kebbi attack adds to the series of violent raids on educational institutions across northwestern Nigeria, where kidnapping-for-ransom gangs frequently target schools, sparking public outrage and concerns over student safety.

Parents and residents gathered at the school on Monday morning, expressing fear and frustration over the escalating insecurity. Security forces have since launched a manhunt to rescue the abducted students and apprehend the attackers.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing, and additional personnel have been deployed to the area to prevent further incidents.
