A devastating incident has rocked the Valdosta community. On Saturday, October 5, 2-year-old Kaimir Jones tragically lost his life after being fatally attacked by two Rottweilers at a home-based, unlicensed daycare.
According to Valdosta Police, Kaimir was in the care of 48-year-old Stacy Wheeler Cobb, who reportedly fell asleep for over two hours. During that time, Kaimir is believed to have wandered outside and somehow unlocked the kennel holding the dogs.
Cobb’s home was not legally licensed to operate as a daycare. Although Kaimir was the only child there that day, she allegedly watched up to 10 children regularly. When Kaimir’s mother, Adrianna Jones, hadn’t heard from Cobb for hours, she left work early, only to discover her son dead in the backyard.
“This is a horrible and tragic event that should have never occurred,” said Police Chief Leslie Manahan. “Because of negligence on this offender’s behalf, a mother has tragically lost a child.”
Cobb is now facing second-degree murder and child cruelty charges. The two Rottweilers involved, along with a third dog, have been taken by Lowndes County Animal Control.
This tragedy echoes another recent case in Nigeria, where Boerboel dogs fatally attacked a security guard, highlighting growing concerns over pet safety and irresponsible ownership.
Our hearts go out to Kaimir’s family and all those affected by this unimaginable loss. This is a painful reminder of why licensed childcare, responsible pet ownership, and child safety can never be taken lightly.
Let’s honor Kaimir by raising awareness.
