LAGOS POLICE ARREST MAN CLAIMING TO BE ‘OBI OF LAGOS,’ FOIL N1.5 BILLION PALACE LAUNCH

Lagos Police arrest man posing as 'Obi of Lagos' and shut down illegal N1.5 billion palace launch.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 65-year-old Chibuike Azubike and three others for allegedly impersonating a traditional authority by parading himself as the “Obi of Lagos.

” Azubike, originally from Ideato North in Imo State, was reportedly planning to unveil a N1.5 billion prototype palace on September 13 in Amuwo Odofin.

Acting on intelligence, the police sealed off the event venue and deployed tactical units, including the Eko Strike Force, to prevent the ceremony from being held and to protect the public from being misled.

According to the command’s deputy spokesperson, Babaseyi Oluseyi, the suspects are currently in custody at the command headquarters in Ikeja and will face prosecution upon conclusion of the investigation.

Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, condemned the incident, warning that such acts are illegal and a threat to public order.

He urged Lagos residents to remain vigilant and report similar suspicious activities. The police emphasised their commitment to upholding law and order, vowing to act decisively against individuals or groups who attempt to undermine the state’s legal and traditional frameworks.

The incident has sparked public curiosity and concern over the growing trend of self-styled monarchs seeking legitimacy outside established traditional systems.
