NCE Student Sparks Outrage After Baby Found in Akwanga Bush
Residents of Akwanga, Nasarawa State, are still reeling from shock after a newborn baby girl was discovered abandoned in a bush near Hope Academy Primary School.
According to the Nasarawa State Police Command, the child was allegedly dumped by her mother — a final-year NCE student of the College of Education, Akwanga. Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed on Thursday that the suspect had been arrested.
NCE Student Case Transferred for Further Investigation
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for a comprehensive investigation and possible prosecution,” Nansel said.
The baby, miraculously found alive, was rescued by residents in the popular A.A. Koto area before being handed over to the police.
Eyewitnesse Condemned The Action
Eyewitnesses who discovered the infant said she had been carefully wrapped in a cloth before being abandoned. The discovery drew a large crowd of concerned residents, many of whom expressed outrage and sorrow over the incident.
“This is heartbreaking. No matter the situation, a baby does not deserve this,” one resident lamented, attributing the act to the harsh economic realities many Nigerians face.
Authorities have assured the public that the rescued baby is receiving care and that justice will be served in the case.
