Members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) began converging at the NLC Secretariat in Abuja on Wednesday, ahead of a nationwide protest aimed at drawing attention to the worsening insecurity and economic hardship across the country.
Leading the gathering were NLC President Joe Ajaero, leaders of affiliate unions, and civil society allies, including Omoyele Sowore and members of the Revolution Now Movement.
Security agencies, comprising the police, civil defence, and the Department of State Services (DSS), were also deployed around the venue as workers assembled in groups awaiting further directives from union leadership.
Speaking on the protest, Ajaero reaffirmed that the action remained on course, stressing that insecurity continues to harm workers, discourage investment, and deepen economic challenges nationwide.
He noted that kidnappings and killings now affect ordinary workers and their families, calling on the government to tackle banditry and related crimes urgently.

Ajaero added that the protest is aimed at awakening national consciousness, urging Nigerians to reject violence and criminality, which he described as alien to the country’s values, while strengthening the resolve of authorities to restore safety and stability.
