Eight NSCDC Operatives Killed in Deadly Ambush
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has vowed to bring to justice the gunmen who ambushed its convoy in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, killing eight personnel and leaving several others injured.
The operatives were on escort duty for Chinese expatriates attached to BUA Cement when they came under heavy gunfire. The attack, which occurred on Friday night, was described as well-coordinated and lasted for hours.
Expatriates Rescued, One Missing
Four Chinese workers were rescued during the operation, while one expatriate is still missing. Four NSCDC operatives who sustained serious injuries were rushed to hospital for urgent treatment.
NSCDC Commandant Breaks Silence on the Issue
Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Ahmed Audi, condemned the killing, describing it as “grievous and cowardly.” He extended condolences to the families of the fallen officers, assuring them that their service and sacrifice would not be forgotten.
“This cowardly attack will not deter us from carrying out our duties. We are mobilising resources and working with other security agencies to track down the perpetrators and rescue the abducted expatriate,” the corps stated.

Security Operations Intensified
The NSCDC confirmed that joint operations have been launched in Edo State, with personnel combing surrounding forests to flush out the attackers. The corps also pledged full medical care for the injured operatives and promised state honours for those killed in the line of duty.
Rising Insecurity in Edo State
The attack adds to growing concerns over insecurity in Edo State, where kidnapping and cult-related violence have been on the rise. Civil society groups have called for urgent government action to prevent further loss of lives.
