Governor Monday Okpebholo presenting the ₦939.85 billion 2026 Edo State budget

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, on Tuesday, presented a N939 billion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly

The budget, tagged “Budget of Hope and Growth,” is designed to consolidate the state government`s developmental efforts in the outgoing year.

Presenting the budget at a plenary session, presided over by Speaker Right Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, the governor noted that the proposal was built on the gains of his first year in office, marked by improved revenue performance and impactful service delivery.

Governor Okpebholo disclosed that the budget allocates 68 percent to capital expenditure and 32 percent to recurrent spending.

Okpebholo explained that the strong emphasis on capital spending reflected his administration’s determination to fast-track development through strategic investments in roads, schools, hospitals, water supply, housing, and other high-impact economic projects across the state.

He disclosed that the 2026 budget would be funded through Internally Generated Revenue estimated at N160bn, Federation Account Allocation Committee disbursements projected at N480 billion, capital receipts and grants of N153billion, N146billion from Public-Private Partnerships, as well as other viable revenue sources available to the state.

Under sectoral allocation, the economic sector received the largest share, with N614.2bn earmarked for agriculture, roads, transport, urban development, and energy.

Priority areas included rural and urban road construction, completion of two flyovers, drainage works, urban renewal, and the expansion of farm estates and irrigation facilities.

He highlighted key achievements in security, including the strengthening of anti-cultism laws, the provision of patrol vehicles, and the recruitment of over 2,500 personnel into the Edo State Security Corps.

He also noted major investments in health, agriculture, education, and job creation, with over 10,000 jobs created.

The session was attended by top government officials, traditional rulers, civil society groups, and members of the press
