Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has finally broken his silence on why he didn’t support Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2023 elections.
During a press briefing on Friday in Abuja, Wike said Obi was merely a “social media candidate” who had no realistic shot at winning the presidency.
“No, he has no chance to win election,” Wike said. “I don’t go to where you see people like this kind of social media candidates. I don’t do social media candidate.”
Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, said his political decisions are guided by analysis and strategy, not online popularity. He argued that many Nigerians fail to understand that elections are shaped by multiple factors, not just competence.
He also highlighted the difficult environment surrounding the 2023 election, pointing to the naira redesign and fuel scarcity. Despite the odds, he praised Bola Tinubu’s ability to navigate the turbulence and emerge victorious.
