SEVEN SUSPECTED CULTISTS ARRESTED FOR MURDER OF PORT HARCOURT LAWYER BRIGHT OWHOR

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended seven suspected members of the Deygbam cult group in connection with the brutal murder of Port Harcourt-based lawyer, Bright Owhor, who was shot on July 5, 2025, along Market Road in Rumuomasi, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area. According to police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, the suspects were arrested after 10 days of intensive intelligence gathering and surveillance by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit. The arrested individuals reportedly confessed to the killing, the withdrawal of funds from the deceased’s bank account, and their involvement in recent cult clashes in the Diobu area of the state capital.

Among the arrested suspects are the alleged gang leader, Godfrey Emmanuel (aka Ibu), as well as the shooter, getaway driver, and arms supplier. Recovered items include locally made pistols, ammunition, live cartridges, vehicles, and a SIM card linked to the crime. The Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, praised the officers’ efforts, stating that the arrests highlight the command’s determination to dismantle cult networks and strengthen public trust in law enforcement.
