WAEC Delists 574 Schools Over WASSCE Exam Malpractice.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has delisted 574 secondary schools across Nigeria for their involvement in examination malpractice.

Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of WAEC’s National Office, revealed that the affected schools have been stripped of their status as recognized examination centres and will no longer be allowed to host future WAEC exams.

The decision follows growing concerns about exam integrity, and WAEC has formally reported the schools to the Federal Ministry of Education for further sanctions.

This development comes as 1,973,253 candidates from 23,554 schools prepare to sit for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), scheduled from Thursday, April 24 to Friday, June 20. The number of registered candidates marks a notable increase of 158,627 from the previous year, with 979,228 males and 994,025 females.

Dr. Dangut emphasized WAEC’s commitment to upholding the credibility of its exams, stating, “The credibility of our exams must be protected at all costs.”

The council hopes this move will serve as a deterrent to other schools and help restore faith in Nigeria’s education system.
