WIKE SLAMS ATIKU OVER FREQUENT PARTY DEFECTIONS, SAYS PRESIDENTIAL AMBITION DRIVES HIS MOVES

Nyesom Wike speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, gesturing while addressing journalists about Atiku Abubakar’s frequent party defections.

Wike Questions Atiku’s Political Loyalty

During a media chat in Abuja, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike openly criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s history of switching political parties. Wike described Atiku’s movements as inconsistent and motivated by personal ambition rather than principle.

“How Can You Keep Switching Parties at Almost 80?” – Wike

In a pointed remark, Wike said if he were Atiku’s son, he would urge him to stop the repeated defections. He traced Atiku’s journey from the PDP to AC, then back to PDP, then APC, and back again—all in pursuit of the presidential ticket.

Atiku’s Move to ADC Sparks Reactions

Atiku recently defected from the PDP to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as part of an emergingopposition coalition aimed at unseating President Tinubu in 2027. Wike, however, downplayed the significance of the move.

“It’s Political Survival, Not Strategy” – Wike Alleges

Wike argued that Atiku’s latest switch was simply because he no longer had a viable path to the PDP’s presidential ticket. He labeled the coalition talk as a desperate attempt to remain politically relevant.
